What are the heat tolerances for carbon fiber and fiber glass?
The heat sheild on my Scion TC is really ugly and takes up alot of space so I took the heat sheild off my headers. there is a four inch space between the headers and a carbon fiber hood. My engie seems to be little hotter and Im worried about damaging my new carbon fiber hood.
Hold on now I’m curious. I just happen to have a piece of C-fiber a torch and an Ir thermometer
Well I tried it with a heat gun and nothing happened until after 500 deg which is where my Ir thermometer runs out. It was hot enough to sizzle water. (spit on it). After 500 deg it discolored a bit (yellowish tinge) but did not weaken it. It was a piece of black C-fiber .059” thick.
